Chateau Weddings France

There are an ever-growing number of chateaux available to rent for your wedding in France.

Even in my own corner of South-West France, since I moved here 3 years ago (at the time of writing), the number seems to have doubled.

Every now and again, one closes down either due to being sold as a property, or because the marketplace was too hot for them.

And it is hot! There are chateaux and venues to suit all sizes and types of wedding but let’s just identify what a chateau is first.

According to the on-line bible that is Wiki, a chateau is: is a manor house or residence of the lord of the manor or a country house of nobility or gentry, with or without fortifications, but in reality, applied these days by the owners to pretty much any large house. Some of which are grander (or less grand!) than others.

Many, if not most should perhaps be more appropriately titled as domaine, ie, historically, an estate comprising the houses, outbuildings, supporting farmland, and woods that surround the gardens and grounds of a very large property, such as a country house or mansion.

Anyway, it’s not for me to determine what any owner should title their property but here are a few favourite ‘Chateau’ wedding venues close to me:

Chateau de Lisse, – a quite majestic yet at the same time intimate setting.

Chateau de Malliac, – though I’d label this one more ‘domaine’ than chateau?

Both fantastic places no matter what tag is put on them!
