Nicole & James’s wedding took place at Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte and was my season finale.

I had not been to this particular venue before but would very much like to go back some time (maybe when the sun is shining…) as it’s a pretty cool place.

Let’s get the elephant out of the room in regard to this one. A bit like the proverbial elephant, it was a bit of a grey one. When I nipped over to a nearby chateau where the groom James was getting ready, the sun somewhat cheekily poked it’s head out and then dumped a light shower on us. It stayed grey all day after that.

Grey, but not dull! This was a great wedding! Planned and organised by Nicole (confusing at times with both bride and planner both called Nicole!) at Pure Expressions, the weather did not affect anything that had been planned.

Nicole got ready in a room on stilts overlooking a small ornamental lake at Les Sources de Caudelie just across the road.

The ceremony took place outdoors in front of the clock tower and was conducted by a friend which makes for an intimate and personal ceremony.

Then there followed not one but two drinks receptions. The first was ‘downstairs’ on the lawn and the second upstairs on an open air terrace as the err…*cough* sun went down (was the plan).

The meal, speeches and dancing took place indoors as it was October after all and absolutely nothing went wrong. Except I had a nagging feeling on my way back that I’d left an audio recorder on the top table so turned round and went back. Sure enough, I had. And that was the end of my season.
